Katherine “Kathy” Barounis of Chelmsford, MA passed away on January 18th, 2018. Kathy was born on December 3, 1959 in Ganohora, Greece to Lambrini Rovinson and Antonios Barounis. At the age of 11, Kathy came to the United States with her family, landing in Boston. She had a strong work ethic and helped her family run Athens Market in the south end of Boston.
Kathy attended Copley Square High, and then two years at Northeastern University, where she studied International Business. She went into the restaurant business, co-owning Atlantic Sea Grill in Acton and Fishbones in Chelmsford. Kathy was also a talented Interior Designer, who took pride in her homes. She was a great mom who juggled the restaurant business along with the responsibilities of raising her two sons, Tony and Ari.
Kathy was a creative and talented person. She cooked the best Greek food, was a fond traveler, and spoke English, Greek, Farsi, and Spanish. She enjoyed taking trips with her family, her sons, sister, and friends. She loved rooting for the Boston sports teams, especially the New England Patriots and Tom Brady. Kathy was fond of gardening and animals, and lived with her cherished dog, Felix. Her heart was big and she was full of wit, energy, and good conversation.
She was a great mother who was loving and caring. She was full of love and adoration for her two sons. Kathy is survived by her son Tony Zosherafatain of New York, NY, Ari Zosherafatain of Seattle, WA; by her sister Anna Barounis of Boston, MA, brother Fotios Barounis of Westwood, MA, and their families; her ex-husband Ali Zosherafatain of Westford, MA, and his sister Laeyla Zosherafatain of Chelmsford, MA. She is also survived by many cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, friends, and her beloved dog, Felix.
Kathy’s wake will be held Monday January 22nd from 5-8 pm at Faggas Funeral Home, 551 Mt. Auburn St., Watertown, MA. Her church services will be held Tuesday January 23rd at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 15 Union Park St., Boston, MA.
